Backup is essentially duplicating data at specific times that will allow you to revert to them in case data loss or corruption occurs. Disaster Recovery (DR) is more inclusive as it covers not only hardware but also software, networking, and the entire infrastructure besides the maintenance of the continuous functioning of the enterprise in the event of a significant interruption, malfunction, or disaster.
• RTO (Recovery Time Objective): How quickly you must recover to avoid serious impact.
• RPO (Recovery Point Objective): How much data (in time) you can afford to lose.
Disaster recovery plan's these two parameters are your mad decisions drivers as they determine the technical aspects of a backup such as replication frequency, failover mode, cost, and so on.
We create a wide range of the most terrifying threat scenarios, such as the failure of hardware, distortion of data, ransomware along with other cyberattacks, the shutdown of the network, and disturbances at the location level (extreme weather condition, power outage), as well as the possibility of human mistake. Our product is designed to be resilient against the return of the most severe situations, not only easy data loss.
We use strong encryption (AES-256 or similar) both in transit and at rest. Access controls, role-based permissions, secure network paths, and audit logging complement encryption. We also enforce authentication, network segmentation, and compliance-aligned policies to ensure data isn’t exposed.
It is largely reliant on your recovery plan (RTO) design and the structure (warm standby, active-active, pilot light, etc.). Most of the time we plan to have the system down for a few minutes or low hours instead of days. How long the downtime is going to be depends on the details of your environment, complexity, and the event's severity.
