Unifying fragmented supply chain data for real-time visibility and cost optimization

The client’s geographically dispersed and fragmented supply chain operations created several critical challenges.

Siloed Data Sources: Critical supply chain data was locked in separate JDE SQL Server databases for their US and Indian operations, making a consolidated global view impossible.

Lack of Centralized Visibility: Without a single source of truth, tracking inventory levels, supplier performance, and logistics across regions was a manual and error-prone process.

Inefficient Inventory Management: The inability to analyze consolidated data led to frequent stockouts of critical items in one region while another had a surplus, increasing carrying costs and the risk of waste.

Reactive Procurement: Demand forecasting was inconsistent and based on incomplete data, leading to reactive purchasing cycles and missed opportunities for bulk discounts.

Complex Reporting:Generating comprehensive reports for global stakeholders was a time-consuming effort that often involved manually merging data from different systems.

Building a hybrid-cloud BI platform powered by Microsoft Fabric and AWS

DEV IT built a modern hybrid-cloud data platform to consolidate and manage global supply chain data seamlessly. Using Microsoft Fabric as the central analytics engine, the system integrated with an Amazon S3 Data Lake for foundational storage. Data pipelines were developed through Azure Data Factory to extract data from JDE SQL Servers in the US and India, landing in an AWS S3 Raw Zone connected to Microsoft Fabric’s OneLake via a zero-copy S3 Data Lake Shortcut. Within Fabric, a Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) ensured structured data refinement, governance, and reliability.

A robust Semantic Model was built on the Gold layer, serving as the single source of truth for analytics and reporting. Business users gained access to Fabric Workspaces for self-service insights and AI-assisted data exploration through Copilot. Additionally, DEV IT developed a custom .NET Core web application hosted on an AWS EC2 instance, enabling write-back operations to an Amazon RDS database for real-time operational adjustments. The system delivered measurable impact, including a 15% reduction in supply chain costs, 95% decrease in critical item stockouts, and 20% improvement in inventory turnover, enhancing efficiency and patient safety.

Expanding AI-driven analytics for predictive and adaptive supply chain management

Following the success of the hybrid-cloud BI platform, the client aims to integrate predictive analytics and AI-driven forecasting for further automation of procurement and inventory control. By continuing to leverage Microsoft Fabric, AWS infrastructure, and Copilot’s AI capabilities, the organization plans to evolve into a data-first enterprise, ensuring resilient, transparent, and efficient global supply chain operations.
